Dalmatians are usually very affectionate and tend to form warm relationships with children. The Dalmatian does not need much time in terms of grooming. Many breed lovers claim this dog to be good for an apartment. Their short coat requires brushing a few minutes a day.

A Dalmatian owner should check his pet for fleas. The Dalmatian is rather prone to skin allergies, and, like any other dog, tends to lick and bite affected areas, making the situation worse.

Exercise needs are said to be considerable. Some Dalmatian owners admit that the dog will not get the required portion of exercise during leashed walks. Dalmatians are medium-sized, active dogs that will do best in a fenced yard. However, apartment dwellers can find a way around this, by recognizing a suitable place to walk their pet. Note that Dalmatians are not always good with other dogs.

The breed is said to do OK with older children. In case the Dalmatian displays behavioral disorders, or you have doubts as to whether the dog will make a good companion for your kids, you'd better choose a different breed.

Dalmatians - Breeders - Adoption of Deaf Dogs

Adopting deaf Dalmatians is a controversial issue. The breed club does not support the idea of raising deaf dogs. Their argument is based on supposition that diseased dogs are more likely to experience behavioral problems. Besides, owning a deaf Dalmatian involves a great responsibility.
